THE ARK X RUBY PILVEN CERAMICS
What draws you to porcelain?
It’s one of the trickiest clays to use but when it works, it is absolutely stunning. The texture and vibrancy of the bold yet muted pastel colours that can be achieved using porcelain and stains is something I love.
How does Japanese art inspire you?
Through my parents, who are both ceramic artists, and time spent travelling I have grown up appreciating Japanese food, culture and ceramics…Japan has such a rich pottery history and culture with a considered and sensitive approach to making which is hard to not love as a potter.
What comes first…colour or shape?
Chance plays an important role in my work. Although I plan colours and patterns in my head, unintended but beautiful accidents can occur through the act of layering colour over colour.
What makes our collaboration pieces unique?
The Ark’s ethical and beautifully made ethos is one that I really appreciate. It was fun working with the team to make their ideas come to life, inspiring me to try different stains and materials that connect well to my work and The Ark’s style. One of a kind is how I would describe the jewellery designs we created together…
There will be a quiet smile on my face if I see someone wearing the pieces…joy for me is, ‘clay’, and sharing this amazing medium with others.
